Have we lost our morality?

It seems it has become virtually impossible for Namibians to browse through our daily and weekly newspapers without being confronted by yet another gruesome case of rape or passion killing.

The question that remains running through my mind is: "Have most Namibian men and women lost all sense of morality?"

As a country that has been deemed conservative, we seem to have completely lost any sense of self-inspection. We are so used to questioning the government regarding national issues, yet as individuals, we forget to question our own acts. When a man or woman makes the conscious decision to inflict violence upon a grandmother, young boy or baby girl, the government had no role to play.

Instead, this individual omitted to think about their own grandmother, younger brother or baby sister. They forget about how they would be enraged if it were to happen to their family member or close friend.

I am past trying to pin the blame on a specific political or social donkey.

I instead have decided to pledge to not commit heinous crimes of this nature.

I urge all Namibians to look deep within them. Find that happy place within where your heart is supposed to beat and remember your morals, your values and principle that run through your veins because of the respect for humanity your ancestors have fought for.

If at least one person in each household can make that pledge then surely we can move towards re-establishing Namibia's morality.

Thomas A. Edison once said: Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages. We are all being savages because we condone such actions. Whilst we march from Zoo Park to Katutura, let us not forget to teach our sons and daughters about love for other human beings, not because they are black, rich or petty, because they are human.

An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity. Live Namibia, LIVE!!
